Hypermobility & Ehlers-Danlos: Looking Beyond Flexibility

Hypermobility is about more than being flexible. For some young people, differences in their joints and connective tissues can affect everyday life in ways that are not always obvious.

In this workshop, we’ll explore what hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes are, how they are assessed and diagnosed, and which professionals may be involved. We’ll consider signs and experiences that might prompt us to look more closely at hypermobility, and explore how it can connect with a range of other health experiences.

We’ll also focus on practical support across everyday life. This will include ideas for home, school and community activities. We’ll look at movement, positioning, pacing, equipment, the environment and conserving energy.

This session is about building understanding, knowing when further assessment may be helpful, and finding supportive ways for young people to participate while respecting their bodies and capacity.
