Creating support through collaboration

Workshops and Webinars

Workshops and webinars offer an opportunity to explore a topic in more depth, share ideas and experiences, and build practical understanding together.

I run workshops independently and collaborate with other educators and professionals to create shared learning opportunities. I am also commissioned by organisations, schools, and charities to provide education for their staff, volunteers and the people they support.

Each workshop or webinar is tailored to its audience. Sessions can include practical examples, reflection activities, discussion and take-away resources, with workbooks and other materials created where appropriate.

Workshop topics

I regularly add new topics and develop bespoke sessions.

Examples include:

  • Food and eating
  • Sleep
  • PDA neurotype
  • Low-demand approaches
  • Understanding distress
  • Puberty
  • Sensory experiences
  • Family relationships and friendships
  • Neurodivergent burnout
  • Creating safe spaces for Autistic & neurodivergent people
  • Toileting
  • Hygiene and personal care
  • Supporting Autistic and neurodivergent people in education
  • Navigating healthcare
  • PANS/PANDAS

If you are a professional, organisation or charity interested in working together on an education event, please get in touch.

You can keep up to date with upcoming workshops and webinars through the Events section of my website and subscribing to my newsletter on Substack.

Speaking Events

I speak at conferences, events, webinars and other educational settings, drawing on both my lived experience and professional experience as a nurse, educator and consultant.

I speak to a wide range of audiences, including community groups and organisations, schools and education professionals, and healthcare providers. Talks can explore topics such as neurodivergence, disability, eating and feeding, sleep, sensory experiences, burnout, inclusive education and creating more supportive environments.

For education settings, I can tailor presentations for teachers, support staff, SENCOs and other professionals around understanding and supporting neurodivergent pupils.

For healthcare audiences, I can provide practical education around neuro-affirming practice, communication, autonomy, sensory considerations and improving healthcare experiences for neurodivergent and disabled people.

I am happy to speak in person, to an online audience, or to provide a pre-recorded session. Talks can also be tailored to the needs and interests of your particular audience.

If you would like to discuss a speaking opportunity or develop a session for your audience, please email me at Laura.theNDnurse@gmail.com.

School and Education Consults

I work with schools and education settings to support a deeper understanding of neurodivergent and disabled pupils and to help create environments where young people can feel safe, understood and able to participate in ways that work for them.

My approach is neuro-affirming, practical and grounded in  looking beyond behaviour. Together, we can consider what might be happening for a young person, including communication, sensory  processing, interoception, autonomy, capacity, health, environment and the demands being placed on them.

Consultation can be focused on an individual pupil or situation, or provide space for a wider staff team to develop a shared understanding and consider practical changes. I can also provide bespoke staff training and workshops, as well as support with reviewing classroom environments, everyday school practices, policies and whole school approaches.

The support I offer is flexible rather than a fixed list of services. This might be a one-off consultation, a series of consultations, staff training, a bespoke workshop, an environment or practice review, or longer-term support for developing practice. We can combine different elements to create an approach that fits the needs of your setting, staff and young people.

Please feel welcome to contact me at Laura.theNDnurse@gmail.com to ask to see some starting options, or to discuss your staff team’s or setting’s needs. We can arrange a phone or video call to talk through what you are looking for and work together to shape the most useful support.

Family and Cross-Setting Support

Sometimes families need help bringing everything together so that the people supporting their young person can understand the bigger picture.

I can work with families and carers to get to know their young person, including their strengths, communication, sensory experiences, needs, preferences, health considerations, capacity and what helps them feel safe and supported. Together, we can identify what is important to the young person and family, and what you would like other professionals or settings to understand.

This might involve creating a personalised document or report that you can take with you into healthcare, education, social care or community settings. These documents can help communicate important information, support conversations with professionals, and provide a shared starting point when several people or services are involved.

Sometimes the need is more focused. You might want help preparing for a school review, bringing together information for a meeting, explaining a particular area of need, or making sure your young person’s voice and your family’s priorities are clearly represented.

Where there are several people or settings involved, I can also help you think about how information and support can be coordinated across them, so that you are not having to start from scratch each time you meet someone new.

The support can be shaped around what you need, from a smaller piece of focused preparation to a more detailed document bringing together information from across your young person’s life.

If you would like to discuss what might be useful, please contact me at Laura.theNDnurse@gmail.com. We can talk through what you are preparing for and what kind of support or document would best fit your needs.

Organisation and Charity Consults

I enjoy working with a wide range of organisations and charities to help make their services, spaces and communication more accessible and welcoming to neurodivergent and disabled people.

Consulting can include reviewing existing practices and materials, developing new resources, advising on accessibility and neuro-affirming language, or working alongside your team to identify practical ways to improve the experiences of the people you support.

Previous work has included accessibility reviews of websites and physical spaces, developing accessibility information for organisations, reviewing language and imagery used across social media and websites, and creating communication resources to support staff working with disabled customers.

I can provide a one-off consultation, support with a specific project, or work with your organisation over a longer period depending on your needs.

Please contact me at Laura.theNDnurse@gmail.com to arrange a discussion about how I can support your organisation.

Consults

Please note that I am currently not taking on additional private consults.

I am currently reviewing and restructuring my private consultation service, with the aim of creating more availability from late autumn into winter 2027. I’ll share further information here as the service develops.

Private consults are individual Q&A sessions for parents, carers, individuals and other professionals. Sessions provide space to talk through your questions and concerns, explore what might be happening, and develop practical action plans around the topics that are most important to you.

If you would like to share additional information with me ahead of a session, or would benefit from completing an assessment beforehand, this can also be arranged as part of the consultation process.

Consults have traditionally been offered on a range of days and at different times, allowing me to accommodate different schedules and time zones. Most sessions take place online via Zoom, although in-person consultations may be possible depending on circumstances and location.

Please check back here for updates about future availability.

Drop Ins

As a public health worker, I believe in creating different options for accessing support and education. Sometimes you may have a quick follow-up question after a workshop, or a private consult may not be the right fit. I also recognise that private consultations are not always financially accessible.

Drop Ins offer an opportunity to come together as a group, share questions and concerns, and work through ideas together. We can explore practical approaches, share resources and identify additional signposting that may be helpful.

Drop Ins may be particularly useful if you have a question you’d like to explore but don’t need a full private consultation.

To stay up to date with upcoming Drop Ins, please follow the Events page on my webpage and subscribe to my Substack newsletter, where I’ll share information about new sessions as they are scheduled.

Drop Ins are offered virtually via Zoom.
