Hair care, nail care and mouth care can all be surprisingly difficult for neurodivergent young people. Sensory experiences, body awareness, communication, autonomy and health needs can all shape how these everyday routines feel. In this workshop, we’ll take a neuro-affirming look at hair, nails and mouth care, exploring why these tasks can be difficult and what might make them more manageable.

Hair, Nails & Mouth Care: Rethinking Hygiene
Hair care, nail care and mouth care can all be surprisingly difficult for neurodivergent young people. Sensory experiences, body awareness, communication, autonomy and health needs can all shape how these everyday routines feel.
In this workshop, we’ll take a neuro-affirming look at hair, nails and mouth care, exploring why these tasks can be difficult and what might make them more manageable. We’ll consider everything from washing and brushing hair to cutting nails and brushing teeth, while keeping comfort, choice and dignity at the centre.
Most importantly, we’ll share practical strategies and adaptations that can be used at home and across everyday settings, helping you find approaches that work with your young person.
