Beyond Behaviour and Diagnostic Overshadowing: PANS/PANDAS in the Autistic Community

This session explores PANS/PANDAS in the Autistic community through a neuro-affirming and trauma-informed lens. Attendees will be invited to move beyond behaviour-based interpretations and consider the impact of diagnostic overshadowing when Autistic young people experience sudden or gradual significant changes in wellbeing, skills or functioning.

The talk will encourage professional curiosity, collaborative information gathering and reflective clinical practice across health, education, social care and specialist services. Practical strategies for recognising patterns of concern and supporting families will be discussed, alongside the importance of listening to lived experience.

Delegates will receive PANS/PANDAS-specific information gathering templates designed for both home and school environments. These are to support observation, communication and multidisciplinary working.
